Bar clears Khodorkovsky lawyers of ethics abuse
accusations
MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) - The Moscow Bar Association refused to
disbar three attorneys of jailed Russian tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky Thursday
after prosecutors in Khodorkovsky's case accused some member's of the former oil
tycoon's legal team of unethical conduct.
"If there are attempts to disbar these attorneys, it will be illegal," said
Moscow Bar Association President Genri Reznik of Anton Drel, Yelena Levina and
Denis Dyatlev.
The Bar's finding is final and cannot be appealed.
Earlier this month, the Prosecutor General's Office requested that three be
disbarred for "breaching lawyers' ethics" by refusing to represent the former
Yukos chief in an appeal hearing while colleague Genrikh Padva was in the
hospital.
The prosecutors accused Khodorkovsky's lawyers of deliberately "dragging out"
the appeal to enable their client to run for a parliamentary seat in a December
by-election.
