Putin to meet with Beslan school siege survivors on
September 2
VLADIKAVKAZ, August 30 (RIA Novosti correspondent Albina Olisayeva) - Russian
President Vladimir Putin is expected to meet on September 2 with members of the
Mothers of Beslan committee, which was set up in the wake of the terrorist
atrocity in the North Caucasus town of Beslan in 2004.
"The delegation will comprise four members of the Mothers of Beslan committee
and three members of the [town's] public council," said Mairbek Tuayev, the
council's chairman.
Putin said Monday that he was ready to meet with committee activists and had
already given the relevant instructions to his aides.
"I have tasked (presidential envoy to Russia's Southern Federal District
Dmitry( Kozak with making the relevant arrangements," the president said in the
Black Sea resort of Sochi after talks with Italian Prime Minister Silvio
Berlusconi.
The Beslan hostage tragedy claimed the lives of 330 people, including 186
children. Terrorists held parents, pupils and staff hostage for three days in a
local school before troops stormed the building. In all, 918 people were rescued.
