Gleb Pavlovsky: Vladimir Putin Is Fulfilling Every
Promise
MOSCOW, August 26. 'Putin makes a lot of promises but he fulfils every one,' said Gleb Pavlovsky, president of the efficient policy foundation. He made this announcement on Echo Moskvi radio station yesterday. 'We all witnessed how billions of dollars of international aid disappeared into thin air in the nineties,' Mr Pavlovsky stressed. 'Now most Russians have more stability and some are even becoming affluent. People are no longer so scared of what tomorrow might bring and this is because of Putin.'
In his opinion Mr Putin is 'a bit of a mixture, sometimes left of centre and sometimes right.' Mr Pavlovsky recommends the Russian electorate to back Mr Putin in the upcoming elections. 'Mr Putin is constantly revealing more of himself and is not afraid to talk about any government issues. In the Duma elections therefore most people will vote for those who support Putin and for the party which most closely resembles his views,' Mr Pavlovsky added.
'Communist Leader Gennady Zuganov will never be president,' he went on. The political scientist believes this may make Zuganov a popular choice for democrats who 'think he is harmless.' However, in Mr Pavlovsky's opinion, the political situation might change in Russia. 'In Russia most problems do not start on the street but in offices,' he said. 'If there is a struggle for power, which is often the case, the Communist party will hardly play an important role and will probably make it more difficult to find an agreement. I don't see this party ever coming to power.'
Victor Hamrayev, political commentator for the Politburo magazine, believes that some significant event will take place before the elections happen which will determine the result. 'I still don't know what this event will be,' he said.
