::  State Duma Deputies Sergei Glaziev and Dmitry Rogozin announced that they are forming a new electoral association -- a coalition of people’s-patriotic forces. They will create their own faction in the next Duma. The federal list will include Glaziev, Rogozin, Varennikov, Shpak and Gerashchenko. Glaziev believes that the decision of the Communist Party not to join with other political movement in the upcoming parliamentary elections is a mistake. The Communists have accused Glaziev of breaking up the left forces.

::  Central Electoral Commission Chairman Aleksandr Veshnyakov announced that gubernatorial elections in the Sakhalin Oblast (to replace Igor Farkhutdinov) may be combined with the parliamentary elections.

::  “Russia can feed itself,” is the motto of the AgroRus-2003 agricultural exhibition, which opened today in St. Petersburg. 51 subjects of the Russian Federation and 25 other countries presented agricultural equipment and produce. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture declared that strict control has been established over meat and dairy imports.

::  The Moscow District Military Court resumed the trial of the former paratroopers and entrepreneurs accused of murdering journalist Dmitry Kholodov. They were acquitted in 2000, but the General Prosecutor’s Office contested the decision.

::  Viktor Kostyukov, a Colonel in the Interior Ministry and the acting head of the Department of the Environmental Police has been detained and accused of extortion. He could be sentenced to 7-12 years imprisonment.

::  Three people died and 20 were injured this morning in a series of three explosions within 10 minutes at public transportation stops in Krasnodar. Police and Federal Security Service officers continue working at the crime scenes. Minister of Internal Affairs Boris Gryzlov held an emergency meeting on the terrorist acts.

::  25-year-old Temirlan Shogenov has been detained during a special operation in Kabardino-Balkaria. He is suspected of helping Zarema Muzhakhoeva.

::  Vladimir Gusinsky will spend at least 45 days in the Korydallos Prison in Athens while the Greek Minister of Justice decides whether to extradite the businessman to Russia.

::  The 6th Annual Russian International Auto Salon opened at Moscow’s Kranaya Presnya Exposition Center.

::  Minister of Emergencies Sergei Shoigu is in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to personally oversee the investigation of the Mi-8 helicopter crash. He met with the relatives of the victims of the crash. The 20 pilots and passengers will be buried in a communal grave. A ceremony will be held at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk’s main church on Wednesday.

::  Only 60 percent of St. Petersburg’s schools will meet safety requirements by September 1st.

::  Another rural school opened in Chechnya -- in Araz-aul in the Shelkovsky region. It was built within two months on donations from the Republic of Kalmykia. Chechen Prime Minister Anatoly Popov personally cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony. Fourteen other schools will be opened in Chechnya in the near future.

::  Georgii Yartsev has been appointed the new head coach of the Russian National Soccer team. He will train the players for at least three games.

::  Archeologists in Veliky Novgorod finished the summer season of excavations.
