Washington to take up Russian grievances over U.S.
visa policy
MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Russia and the United States plan a consultation in Washington on September 9 to discuss Russian grievances with the U.S. entry visa policy, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.
The United States rejects more than 25% of visa applications from Russians, the ministry said on its website. The proportion "has a clear trend to increase further; a growing stream of complaints and appeals by Russian citizens about the unjustifiably strict visa policy of the U.S. authorities is evidence of this.
"The recently introduced practice of compulsory personal interviews and the long duration of processing of visa applications are also giving rise to many grievances.
"This situation hinders the sustained development of Russian-U.S. ties in many fields of cooperation, hampering the expansion of humanitarian exchanges between our countries."
