Yeltsin not going into big politics - chief of protocol

MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Russia's first president Boris Yeltsin "will never go back into big politics," his protocol chief Vladimir Shevchenko told Interfax on Friday.

When asked to comment on parliamentarian Boris Nadezhdin's statement that Yeltsin might be included in the Union of Right Forces election list, Shevchenko said Yeltsin has not received any proposals to run for the Duma. "If such proposals do arrive, the first president of Russia will categorically reject them," he said.

Nadezhdin's statement was aired by Ekho Moskvy radio.

"Boris Nikolayevich [Yeltsin] fully backs the policy pursued by Vladimir Putin and considers this backing to be his main cause. It is his credo and he will never give it up," Shevchenko said.

Shevchenko said Yeltsin is currently in Barvikha, Moscow region, and is doing a lot of reading. "He mainly reads memoirs, historical literature, and works by major Russian historians, including Komarov," he said.
