:: 44 people died and 64 were hospitalized after yesterday’s explosion at the Mozdok Hospital. The terrorists used an equivalent of 1,000 kilograms of explosives. Most of the victims were doctors, nurses and patients. A Day of Mourning will be held in North Ossetia on August 4th.
:: Six military doctors wounded in Mozdok have been brought to the St. Petersburg Military-Medical Academy.
:: Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram expressing his condolences to the friends and relatives of the victims of the Mozdok terrorist act. President Putin also met with Federal Security Service Director Nikolai Patrushev and General Prosecutor Vladimir Ustinov to discuss the tragedy.
:: Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Ivanov is in Mozdok evaluating the situation. He declared that the city’s military garrison had neglected special orders of the Ministry of Defense on increasing security measures. The head of the garrison and the director of the hospital have been suspended from their duties for the duration of the investigation,
:: President Putin and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko discussed trade and economic cooperation over the telephone.
:: Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma thanked President Putin for support on the question of grain export from Russia to Ukraine.
:: The Day of the Paratroopers was celebrated throughout Russia. About 1,500 former paratroopers met in Moscow’s Gorky Park. According to law enforcement structures, there were no serious incidents, with the exception of a car overturned in the city center.
:: Two Russian Emergencies Ministry helicopters have landed in Marseilles. They will help fight forest fires in France.

:: The 60 doctors, nurses and patients wounded in the Mozdok terrorist act have been brought to other local hospitals as well as hospitals in Rostov-on-the-Don, St. Petersburg and Moscow. 40 of the 50 bodies found in the ruins of the Mozdok Hospital have been identified.
:: 1,130 people participated in the rescue operation in Mozdok. The operation lasted 36 hours. Rescue workers from Moscow are now returning to the Domodedovo Airport.
:: A memorial service for the victims of the Mozdok terrorist act was held in Rostov-on-the-Don.
:: Investigators believe Shamil Basaev may have ordered the terrorist act. According to unofficial information, the man who sold the Kamaz truck used to blow up the Mozdok hospital has been detained.
:: An Mi-24 military helicopter made a forced landing in the Itum- Kalininsk region of Chechnya. There were no casualties.
:: Two police officers died and one was hospitalized when unidentified men opened fire on the patrolling officers in the Urus- Martanov region of Chechnya.
:: Russian, Kyrghyz and Belarusian railroad employees are celebrating their professional holiday.
:: Georgia has sent 70 peacekeepers to Iraq.
