Russia likely be given good investment rating by
end of 2004
MOSCOW. Aug 1 (Interfax) - Russia expects to be granted an investment level crediting rating by the end of the next year, Economic Development and Trade Minister German Gref told a news conference on Friday after a meeting with the ministry's top officials.
"If everything proceeds as expected and the State Duma adopts next year's budget with the parameters set by the Cabinet, and if we keep our macroeconomic situation as it is, then we may hope to obtain an investment rating by the end of next year," he said.
"The investment climate in Russia will not change for the better" unless the country joins the WTO and obtains an investment level crediting rating, Gref said.
In the process of joining the WTO, Russia will soon finalize its talks with the EU, the United States and China, he said.
"Once an understanding is reached with these parties, we will be able to talk about a specific timeframe for joining the WTO," Gref said.
