:: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Sarov for the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the canonization of Serafim Sarovsky. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexii II blessed the religious procession from Sarov to Diveevo, which numbered 10,000.
:: Registration for the gubernatorial elections in St. Petersburg has ended. The 13 candidates include Presidential Plenipotentiary to the Northwestern Federal District Valentina Matvienko, St. Petersburg Deputy Governor Anna Markova, State Duma Deputy Petr Shelishch and Aleksandr Gabitov. The elections are scheduled for September 21.
:: Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich is arriving in Moscow. The main goal of his visit is working out the details of Russian grain deliveries to Ukraine.
:: North Korean Ambassador to Moscow Pak Ui Chun told Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov that North Korea is in favor of multi-lateral negotiations with Russia’s participation.
:: Russian General Prosecutor Vladimir Ustinov approved the resignation of Moscow Prosecutor Mikhail Avdyukov. Avdyukov has been appointed Counsellor of the General Prosecutor’s Office. He and his first deputy, Yuri Sinelchshikov have been reprimanded for infractions in reviewing cases. Sinelchshikov has been demoted. He told journalists the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office served as a scapegoat.
:: The crew of the Mi-26 helicopter detained in Sudan has returned to Moscow.
:: Border Troops officers were forced to fire upon a poacher ship near the Sakhalin Island. Three criminals were wounded.
:: The Far Eastern Military District celebrates its 85th anniversary.
:: Pension Fund Chairman Mikhail Zurabov declared that pensions for all senior citizens are going up by an average of 131 rubles today.
:: Ingushetia farms received new tractors and combines.
:: The Russian Ministry of Emergencies received the first of seven new Be-200 amphibious airplanes.
:: Over 600 people had to be evacuated in Tuva due to severe flooding.
:: Former World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov played a set of matches against 11 prisoners in Rostov.
