"RUSSIA IN GLOBAL AFFAIRS" LAUNCHES ENGLISH-LANGUAGE VERSION

MOSCOW, January 16. /RIA Novosti/ - The English-language version of the Moscow-based journal, "Russia in Global Affairs" sees promotion of Russian companies in the global market as one of its principal missions, said Sergei Karaganov as the new periodical was introduced to the public at the Izvestia media centre today.

Mr. Karaganov leads its editorial staff, and is presidium chairman of the federal Council for Foreign and Defence Policies.

The journal will have a rubric, "Russia in the World Economy", he said to a RIA Novosti reporter. The maiden issue carries a contribution on, "How to Get Round Your Rivals", which concerns Russia's emergence in global markets and prospects to join the World Trade Organisation.

Economic contributions will analyse now particular companies, now the whole of Russian business.

As he was commenting the Norilsk Nickel's deal to buy the US-based Stillwater Mining-the world's third-largest for palladium and platinum output, Mr. Karaganov said: "If it comes off, the deal will be a triumph of the entire Russian business world. It will offer us a great many new opportunities, and send the global public ratings of Russian companies soaring up."
