ROWLING'S BOOK DOES NOT PROMOTE SATANISM, MOSCOW PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE AFFIRMS

MOSCOW, December 31, 2002 /from a RIA Novosti correspondent/-- The Moscow Prosecutor's Office has not detected any signs of religious extremism in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets.

The Prosecutor's Office press service told RIA Novosti on Tuesday that Moscow prosecutors had fulfilled the request of T. Kvitkovskaya, Chairman of the Tarusa department of the International Foundation of Slav Writing and Culture, to conduct relevant procedures. According to her, Rowling's book propagates religious extremism and Satanism and involves students in Satanist-type religious groups.

The Moscow Prosecutor's Office did not discover any grounds for instituting criminal proceedings, the press service pointed out.
