EXPLOSION OF APARTMENT BUILDINGS IN MOSCOW STARTED TESTIFYING
MOSCOW, 10 December. /RIA Novosti correspondent/. On Tuesday a well-informed source in Russia power structures reported that militant Yusuf Krymshamkhalov extradited to Russia by Georgia and accused of being involved in explosions of apartment buildings in Moscow started testifying.
According to the source, "in connection with the necessity to maintain secrecy of the investigation, the essence of evidence given by Krymshamkhalov was not yet disclosed." Earlier chief of the operative and investigation department of the Federal Security Service Lieutenant-General Ivan Mironov reported that Krymshamkhalov, Batchayev, Khakim and Alim Abayevs and Saitakov were members of the terrorist group of Achimez Gochiyayev who, according to investigation information, was one of the major suspects of organization of terrorist acts in Moscow in autumn 1999.
According to Mironov, it is known that Krymshamkhalov headed the group, which organized two horrifying explosions of apartment buildings in Moscow.
The General stated that officers of the operative and investigation department received operative information that Gochiyayev and Krymshamkhalov were staying in the Pankisi gorge.
Subsequently that information was confirmed in the course of investigation actions carried out with Chechen militants extradited from Georgia to Russia in October this year.
Presently only Achimez Gochiyayev, leader of the Karachai Vahhabis and major organizer of terrorist acts in Moscow is yet at large.
At the beginning of September a group of high-ranking officials of Russian power departments and special services headed by first deputy director of the Russian Federal Security Service Major-General Vladimir Pronichev visited Georgia. At that time together with representatives of Georgian special services they worked out practical measures to carry out joint operations in the struggle against international terrorism.
On 6 December in the course of a special operation in the Lagodekhi region of Georgia 4 militants were killed. Among them were one of the organizers of Moscow terrorist acts Timur Batchayev and his accomplice Rashid Khumiyev. Only Yusuf Krymshamkhalov was taken alive.
