Putin says Russia will do what it must to protect its
citizens from terror
ITAR-TASS
Moscow, 6 November, ITAR-TASS correspondent Veronika Voskoboynikova: Russian President Vladimir Putin is convinced that those who organize and carry out terrorist acts will be unable to "find refuge in any country throughout the world" and will "be severely and deservedly punished for their evil deeds". The head of state said this today during a ceremony at which a number of foreign ambassadors presented their credentials to him.
"Russia intends to undertake whatever is necessary and sufficient to mount a reliable defence of its citizens against terrorist violence and extremism," Putin emphasized.
The Russian president said he was convinced that "no matter what pretexts are used as a cover for their activities, the accomplices of terrorism must not escape being answerable to the international community either".
Putin thanked those who rendered Russia assistance and moral support during the recent tragic days. "The fact that it happens to be an absolute majority of the members of the international community strengthens our conviction that through joint efforts we shall be able to achieve a situation in which not a single country will offer safe haven to the organizers and executors of terrorist acts alike," noted the head of state.
Putin also said that the Russian public was badly affected by the aftermath of the terrorist seizure of hostages at the theatre centre in Moscow. "We grieve for the innocent victims of this cruel bandit action," noted the president.
