US Embassy in Russia announces changes in visa cost and issue rules

MOSCOW. Nov 4 (Interfax) - U.S. Consul General James Warlick has announced major changes in the visa rules for Russian citizens wishing to visit the United States.

From now on, Russian citizens who meet the visa requirements will as a rule get multi-entry visas, which will not entail extra spending on their part, Warlick said at a Monday press conference at the Interfax main office in Moscow.

Starting from today, the majority of Russians who want business or tourist visits to the United States will get multi-entry visas. A one- year, multi-entry visa will cost only $100. A two-year visa will cost $200. The visa cost is thereby reduced, and the complicated procedure of visa payments is made simpler, Warlick said.

Up until now, it cost $195 for Russians to obtain a one-year, multi-entry visa to the United States, he remarked.

Three-year visas for businessmen and tourists, which cost $495, have been abolished, Warlick said. Yet he stressed that students and participants in exchange programs will still receive three-year visas for $100.
