A Russian TU-154 passenger plane flying from Moscow to Barcelona for the Bashkir Airline collided with a Boeing 757 cargo plane over German territory. According to preliminary information, human error was at fault. There were no survivors. The victims included 52 school children, 5 adults, and 12 crew members from the TU-154 plane, as well as two pilots on the Boeing 757.

The school-children and 5 adult passengers were on a UNESCO-sponsored field trip to Spain. On Saturday, they had missed their original flight when they went to the wrong airport (Sheremetievo instead of Domodedovo); an additional flight was organized by the Bashkir Airline. [NOTE: I'VE SEEN NOTHING FURTHER ON THIS -- IT MAY BE INTERESTING TO CHECK WHETHER THE "ADDITIONAL" FLIGHT WAS PROPERLY REGISTERED -- LS]
