"The Civilization of the Russian Economy: A View
from the Securities Market"
Russia and Eurasia Program Seminar
Friday, June 28, 2002
2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Dear Colleague,
The Russia and Eurasia Program at Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is pleased to announce a seminar on future prospects for the Russian economy. The speaker will be Igor Kostikov, chairman of the Federal Commission for the Securities Market, who is in Washington DC, to meet with his U.S. SEC counterpart, congressional and government figures, and World Bank officials. Mr. Kostikov will speak on his view that Russian businessmen, driven by recognition of benefit and a desire for integration, are unleashing qualitatively new potential for economic development while playing by the rules.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Kostikov served as Deputy Chairman of the Finance Committee of the City of St. Petersburg, where he managed a successful municipal debt strategy for Russia's second-largest city. In 1993, Mr. Kostikov was General Director of AVK Securities and Finance Ltd. in St. Petersburg, which served as lead manager on the St. Petersburg Administration's debt issues. In 1990, he founded and served as General Director of the company Marka Ltd., which helped originate the Russian financial consulting industry, providing training and educational programs for Russia's first generation of professional market participants. Mr. Kostikov holds a degree in Economics from Leningrad State University and has a Ph.D. in Economics from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Academy of Sciences in Moscow.
Following the presentation, there will be a brief period of question and answer. Light refreshments will be served. We hope you will be able to join us on June 28th.
The seminar will begin promptly at 2:30pm on Friday, June 28th in the CSIS 4th Floor Conference Room. Please RSVP by June 27th to Julie Sawyer at jsawyer@csis.org or by fax at (202) 775-3199.
