Russian liberal party calls for wholesale changes in
domestic policy
Interfax
Moscow, 15 June: Yabloko leader Grigoriy Yavlinskiy believes that Russia's economic and political policy should be changed.
"Yabloko believes that the economic and political policy should be changed and those perpetrating this policy should be replaced," Yavlinskiy said at the Saturday [15 June] meeting of the Yabloko general council. When asked whom he exactly meant Yavlinskiy said he meant all the key structures, including defence and security. At the same time, Yavlinskiy said he did not mean to say that the president of Russia should be replaced.
Characterizing the situation in Russia, Yavlinskiy said that the democracy issue has aggravated in the past few months. "It is no longer a democracy. It is a totally different system, a corporate system with a considerable corruption-criminal element, which works only to secure the interests of a certain group and preserves the appearance of certain democratic procedures," Yavlinskiy said.
