Subject: new PONARS policy memos

The Program on New Approaches to Russian Security (PONARS) is pleased to announce that our new website is up and running. PONARS can now be found at www.csis.org/ruseura/ponars. Please bookmark the new site. In addition, four new policy memos have been posted and two more are soon to be added. Our new policy memos are:

--From Afghanistan To Ingushetia (Georgi Derlugian)

--The Soviet Military Experience in Afghanistan: A Precedent of Dubious Relevance (Mark Kramer)

--U.S.-Russia Cooperation on Afghanistan: An Exception or a Model? (Ekaterina Stepanova)

--What Is At Stake For The United States In The Sino-Russian Friendship Treaty? (Nikolai Sokov) (there is also a direct link to these new memos on the CSIS homepage, along with additional analysis of the current counter-terrorism efforts at www.csis.org).

We encourage JRL readers to check back soon for new policy memos. We will soon be publishing a memo on U.S. policy toward Chechnya, and a memo on Putin and his generals. The website is updated often to include new memos, upcoming PONARS-related events, and the latest publications from PONARS members.

If there are any questions about PONARS, requests for publications or additional information, we can be emailed at ponarsinfo@csis.org.

Many thanks!
Jackie Miller
