Medvedev meets with Council of Europe human rights commissioner

MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax) - President-elect Dmitry Medvedev at a Friday meeting with Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammarberg said he would gladly hear the commissioner's impressions of his travels to the North Caucasus.

"Most of your visit was to the North Caucasus. You have your own impressions and I would be glad to hear them," he said.

Medvedev said that a year ago he had a very interesting and fruitful meeting with Hammarberg, and he voiced hope that the current meeting would be just as productive.

He told the commissioner that Moscow had received the report compiled by Hammarberg's predecessor, studied it and prepared a reply.

Hammarberg confirmed that he had received a voluminous document from his predecessor. He promised to study it closely, adding that it is a serious foundation for the continuation of dialogue.
