Bill Banning Alcohol, Tobacco Advertising In Public Transport Sails Through 1St Reading

MOSCOW. April 2 (Interfax) - The State Duma passed in the first reading on Wednesday amendments to the Law on Advertising banning alcohol and tobacco advertising in all types of public transport and transport infrastructure.

The bill banning the advertising of tobacco and alcohol in public transport, at train stations, airports and in the metro will help fight bad habits and will soften the negative impact of the media on young people, first deputy leader of the United Russia faction Tatyana Yakovleva told journalists.

"But, in my view, this is only a half-measure. A complete ban must be imposed on advertising of tobacco and alcohol products," the MP said.
