We are pleased to invite you to the second of a series of three seminars on “Rethinking Russia and U.S.-Russian Relations” convened by the Woodrow Wilson Center’s Kennan Institute and a number of concerned individuals with extensive experience and deep knowledge of Russia. The three seminars focus on:
The Role of Russia in the Global World Order;
Russia’s Role in the Global Economy; and
The New Russia: A Look at Internal Developments
The second seminar will be chaired by Sarah Carey, Squire, Sanders, and Dempsey L.L.P., and the speaker will be Charles Ryan, Chairman of Deutsche Bank in Russia. Mr. Ryan has worked with the Russian market since 1991. In 1994 Mr. Ryan founded United Financial Group (UFG), an independent Russian investment bank in Moscow, which he built into one of Russia’s leading investment companies. Early in 2006 Deutsche Bank acquired 100% of UFG. Charles Ryan was appointed Chief Country Officer and CEO of Deutsche Bank Group in Russia, a position he held for three years until August 2008 when he assumed his current position.
Mr. Ryan will address the impact of the global financial crisis on Russia; the current state of the Russian economy; the role of the Russian government in engineering financial recovery; the positives and negatives about their bail out plan; what the future holds for the economy and for Russia’s role as a regional and global economic player; and U.S.-Russian economic relations.
The third session will be in mid-January, and details on the final event will be sent in the coming weeks. A summary of the first session, including the full remarks by Professor Michael Mandelbaum, can be found online at (www.wilsoncenter.org/kennan) under NEWS.
We hope you can join us for what promises to be an enlightening discussion. Please note that space is limited, and that this invitation is transferable. RSVP to Joseph Dresen at (202) 691-4245 or by email to joseph.dresen@wilsoncenter.org.
