Intl partners will help bring peace to S. Ossetia,
Abkhazia - Medvedev
MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said he is
hoping Russia's international partners will take a constructive stance of the
situation in South Ossetia.
"I am hoping our partners will take a constructive stance. All they can do is
supply weapons to Georgia, but arming someone does not mean restoring peace,"
Medvedev said while meeting with the presidents Sergei Bagapsh of Abkhazia and
Eduard Kokoity of South Ossetia on Thursday.
"We need to help peace, not war," said Medvedev.
Speaking about the settlement principles that have recently been developed in
cooperation with France, Medvedev said that "it is not all."
"We need to prepare an immediate binding treaty on the non-use of force,
which all parties to the contract will sign with guarantees from Russia, the EU,
and the OSCE, and possibly other guarantees," Medvedev said.
These principles are a foundation, which can be used for future work,
Medvedev said.
