Medvedev: setting up OPEC-type body for gas still on agenda

MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday that "it would be incorrect" to take off the agenda a proposal for setting up an international cartel for natural gas trade similar to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

"It is true that there exists no organization in the gas industry that is similar to OPEC, and there currently exist various proposals for considering setting up an organization of this kind or some kind of international agreement," Medvedev said after talks with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

"No decision has been made about this, but it would be incorrect to consider this issue to be closed or exhausted," Medvedev said.
