Subject: Seminar Anouncement at RAS [-- Moscow event on US Congress "Captive Nation Resolution"]

Dear Colleagues,

We are inviting you to participate in the round table discussion on the US Congress "Captive Nation Resolution". This seminar is organized by the American University in Moscow and the Institute of Social and Political Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It will take place on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 from 3 to 6 PM at the Russian Academy of Sciences headquarters located at Leninski Prospect 32a, Room 1227. Cocktail reception to follow.

As expected, President George Bush will issue his annual proclamation on this resolution this week and we thought it would be a good idea to discuss its history and whether Russia was a "Captor" nation or one of the "Captive" nations together with some 30 other countries mentioned in this resolution. We believe that this is a not a linguistic exercise but rather important political one with the strong implications for the future of Russian democracy and the state of Russia's relations with the former Soviet block countries and the West in general.

The admission is free but registration is required. Those who are interested in attending should send e-mail stating the full name and affiliation to Russia@RussiaHouse.org.
