Decision To Let In UK Fans Without Visas Shows That Russia Is A Civilized Country - Lavrov
MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - Russia has acted as a civilized country by allowing soccer fans to enter the country without visas to attend the UEFA CUP Final, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"I believe we did the right thing. We fulfilled out role as a country which received the right to conduct such an event," Lavrov said at a meeting in the State Duma on Tuesday.
"We acted like a civilized country," said Lavrov.
"A country's care for the conditions in which participants in international events enter it indicates how civilized it is," said Lavrov.
The UK has taken reciprocal steps by giving the Russian fans entering the UK visas free of charge, he said.
