Putin: Corruption Blocking Russia's Competitive Economy
MOSCOW. Nov 10 (Interfax) - Corruption and economic crimes hinder Russia's
development and the creation of a competitive economy in the country, Russian
President Vladimir Putin said at a solemn reception dedicated to the Police Day
in Russia.
"People wait for new police successes in countering economic crimes and
corruption. This is not only Russia's business activity that these 'social
tumors' impedes," the president said.
Corruption and economic crimes hinder the civilized development of the
country, the creation of a competitive economy, and the freedom of
entrepreneurship, he said.
"In fact, they (these crimes) is an obstacle to a higher welfare level of
Russians and to Russia's development," Putin said.
The Russian president is certain that law enforcement agencies' activity to
counter lawlessness and corruption should rest on society, "should listen to its
voice and be transparent and open to citizens of the country," Putin said.
