INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM
Position Description
Program Officer, International Peace and Security
Carnegie Corporation of New York's International Program seeks a program
officer, to be based in New York City, with professional knowledge and
background in the area of nuclear weapons and security. The Corporation's
longstanding work in this area seeks to support policy relevant research and
outreach on reducing nuclear weapons and their proliferation risks. This
position reports directly to the Program Director, International Peace and
Security, but works closely with other Program colleagues, including the Vice
President, International Program Coordination, Program Associate and Program
support staff. Duties include: 1) Developing and updating program area strategy
and priorities in collaboration with Program Director and other Program
colleagues; 2) Reviewing and assessing grant proposals; 3) Working with
potential grantees to develop proposals, budgets and other documentation for
grant submission; 4) Preparing materials in a timely fashion and making oral and
written presentations to justify support for proposals, and program strategies
and objectives; 5) Monitoring grants in support of program objectives, including
conducting site visits; 6) Interacting with current and potential grantees,
including conveying decisions regarding unsuccessful grant applications; 7)
Keeping well informed of developments in the field and identifying new
grantmaking opportunities; 8) Building and maintaining professional
relationships with a wide range of relevant experts, and participating in
conferences and workshops in the field; 9) Organizing and chairing program
related meetings both within and outside the Corporation and representing the
Corporation at relevant external events and meetings; 10) Meeting deadlines for
program related reports and administrative requirements; 11) Undertaking special
assignments as required.
Requirements Include:
Strong writing, editing and presentation skills; Advanced degree in security
studies, international relations or related field; Special knowledge and
expertise related to nuclear weapons and international security; A minimum of
five years experience as a scholar or working professional in the security
field; Working knowledge of and familiarity with the Washington, D.C. and other
relevant policy establishments; Demonstrated experience in program development,
evaluation and administration; Strong organizational skills; Ability to work
independently and collaboratively as part of a team; Willingness to travel
extensively, domestically and internationally
