Ruling, Opposition Parties Get Equal Attention In Mass Media - Churov

MOSCOW. Sep 13 (Interfax) - Russia's chief election commissioner Vladimir Churov disagrees that only one party gets all attention in domestic mass media.

The positions of major parties on television and radio are leveling off, he told foreign journalists on Thursday.

"There are many large interviews with the leaders of opposition parties," Churov said.

"As for the Internet, there's complete freedom there, one does what he wants, and so do I," he said.

For the first time, the Central Election Commission will conduct its own monitoring of media coverage of party activity, Churov said.

"We are interested in qualitative exit polls," he added.

The commission will help those who will conduct exit polls, for one, by offering all information about the location of polling stations, etc, Churov promised.
