Moscow is against "strategic games" in Europe -
minister
RIA Novosti
Minsk, 28 June: Moscow is against "strategic games" in Europe which aim to
create potential for confrontation and build European politics on the basis on a
"friend-or-foe" principle, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on
Thursday [28 June] in his address at the Belarusian State University.
"We do not foresee any confrontation with anyone, including the USA. This
means that one cannot talk of any kind of "new cold war". There are no objective
reasons for that," Lavrov said.
"Estrangement and alienation would have serious consequences in modern
conditions, " he said.
"While keeping the right not to agree with partners, Russia is always ready
for truly collective joint actions, if our partners make such a choice," Lavrov
said.
He expressed his regret about the fact that the recent emergency conference
of CFE member states did not allow them to coordinate positions regarding the
future fate of this treaty.
"We are ready to continue the dialogue. We do not understand why one should
rush into making a decision on Kosovo or implementing plans to deploy elements
of the US national defence system in Eastern Europe," Lavrov said.
We propose to begin with strengthening trust. If there is a high level of
trust, the rest will be easy," he added.
