Encouraging Competition Will Require Better Law
Enforcement - Fradkov
MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - The government will improve law enforcement and
the actions of law enforcement agencies in order to create an environment for
competition to thrive, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov said.
"Obviously, we still have a lot to do regarding competition both in terms of
regulations and especially in law enforcement," Fradkov said speaking at the
Sixth Annual Conference of the International Competition Network in Moscow on
Wednesday.
"And this is a task not only for the Federal Antimonopoly Service, but also
for a number of other public bodies, including law enforcement. This is one of
the priorities of the government and we shall continue our serious efforts in
this area," the premier said.
Fradkov noted that the government had set itself the task of making the
Russian economy highly competitive, based on expertise, innovation, modern
equipment and technologies, and "not dependent only on energy."
"We understand that our competitiveness abroad is inseparable with
competitiveness at home, which is why the state will continue strengthening in
every possible way economic freedom, freedom of enterprise, and ensure equal
conditions for all economic agents," the premier said.
