Pro-Kremlin pundit says Russia should reject "imposed
agenda" at EU summit
Interfax
Moscow, 15 May: It would make sense for Russia to lower the level of its
representation at the RF-EU summit in Samara if, in the course of the meeting,
an agenda imposed by the Baltic states and Poland was discussed, the president
of the Effective Policy Foundation, Gleb Pavlovskiy, believes.
"Russia will not engage in dialogue on an imposed propagandist agenda.
Perhaps, in that case, it would make sense to lower the level of representation
at the summit," Pavlovskiy told Interfax on Tuesday [15 May]. He added, however,
that Russia should certainly not refuse to take part in the summit, especially
as it is hosting it.
"It would be worth holding talks if the EU was ready to discuss problems that
fall within the framework of agreements that have already been signed, such as
the four spaces, the status of Kosovo and the ABM problem," the political pundit
said.
Pavlovskiy believes that account should be taken of the difficult situation
the EU has found itself in. He noted that two of the main EU players - France
and Britain - were going through a process of power transition. He said that the
EU had found itself in a state of deconsolidation amid "Eastern European
countries' rebellion" and Warsaw's "intrigues" against Russia, which were being
"woven for internal political goals". The political pundit said that Moscow
"would look silly" if it responded with demarches.
