From Tom Masters, producer, Atlantic Productions, London.
Atlantic Productions are currently preparing to shoot a landmark documentary
about Russia for the Discovery Channel called Atlas Russia and we're trying to
find Russians through whom we can explore what it means to be Russian in the
early 21st century. While we've got lots of leads and potential story lines
already in development, there are still quite a few gaps we're looking to fill.
If anyone has contacts or suggestions for finding any of the following we'd be
delighted to hear from you. Filming will start in early 2007 and go on until the
autumn.
We're specifically looking for:
- People working on oil fields, at oil refineries or in the oil
transportation industry
- Trans-Siberian railway carriage attendants (a provodnik or provodnitsa)
- Anyone working in the caviar industry, especially anti-poaching authorities
and fishermen developing the caviar industry in Siberia and the Far East
- An environmentalist campaigning in the Russian provinces
- Somebody campaigning/working for the memorial of gulag victims, especially
in Siberia
- Somebody not ethnically Russian but living in Russia (especially somebody
from the northern Siberian peoples, including Nenets, Yakuts, Evenks, Nganasan,
Chuchkis or Koryaks) whose lifestyle is a combination of old and new
- A volcanologist working in Kamchatka
- A shaman whose life doesn't revolve around doing tourist shows
- Anyone working to preserve endangered species in Russia such as the
Siberian Tiger
In general people need to:
- Be Russian citizens and resident in the Russian Federation
- Have some charm and charisma
- Have interesting lives, jobs or a specific story that would form a good
narrative over a period of several months
If anyone would like to help us out with our initial research, we'd be
delighted to hear from you. Please email
