Russian arms exporter plans boost to already bulging order books

Moscow, 9 September: Senior officials of the Rosoboroneksport state enterprise intend to step up operation of the company's agencies abroad, Col-Gen Vyacheslav Ovchinnikov, adviser to Rosoboroneksport's director general, told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"We have vast reserves represented by Rosoboroneksport's foreign agencies, which have yet to be capitalized on. Should their efficiency be increased, the company's order portfolio is sure to expand," Ovchinnikov said. According to him, Rosoboroneksport's order portfolio boasts a sum of money which is thrice as large as that earned by the company this year. "We are well set up for the future, we have lots of work to do," Ovchinnikov said.

Andrey Belyaninov, Rosoboroneksport director general, told Interfax-Military News Agency in late August that the company's order portfolio was evaluated at over 13bn dollars. "Such a great volume of work is enough to keep all enterprises and organizations participating in fulfilling contracts busy for the next three to four years," Belyaninov emphasized.

In 2002 Rosoboroneksport exported a total of 4bn dollars' worth of defence industry products - which is the highest performance index shown by the company since Russia started exporting its arms.
