KREMLIN: ATTACK ON DIPLOMATIC CONVOY IN IRAQ WASN'T "PLANNED, PREMEDITATED"

MOSCOW, April 10 (RIA Novosti) - The Kremlin finds that the firing at the Russian diplomatic convoy traveling from Iraq into Syria "was not planned, premeditated." One source in the Kremlin told RIA Novosti the incident was not "a provocation" sanctioned "at the top." But the source indicated that in his opinion it was "a war incident that demonstrates the irresponsibility of those who participated in it." The Russian embassy motorcade traveling in the direction of the Iraq-Syria border from Baghdad came under fire on Monday. Four people were injured by the gunfire. The driver of the ambassador's car was wounded seriously.

"I don't think that top-level American political or military leadership issued orders to fire at Russian diplomats," the source said.

But he pointed out, "That does not exonerate the American side as a whole from responsibility (for the incident)." "That service members on the ground behaved irresponsibly, despicably, is a fact and subject to enquiry," said the Kremlin official.
