USA satisfied with Russian nuclear safeguards - diplomat
ITAR-TASS

Moscow, 23 January: The United States is satisfied with how Russia safeguards its nuclear arms stockpiles, US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage said in Moscow on Thursday [23 January].

At the same time he noted that not all the states duly ensure control with their stockpiles of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. In this connection, Armitage said, there is a likelihood of terrorists getting hold of such weapons.

He said experts in the USA and Russia are aware that Al-Qa'idah terrorists were planning to create biological weapons, the more so since this would obviate the need for them to obtain the fissionable materials required for a nuclear device.
