Rogozin says Republican victory sign of national
consolidation after 9/11
MOSCOW. Nov 6 (Interfax) - Chairman of the Russian State Duma's International
Affairs Committee Dmitri Rogozin believes that the U.S. has rallied around the
George W. Bush administration after September 11, 2001, which can be seen from
the results of the current midterm elections.
"The results available at the moment were easy to predict. It was clear
from the beginning that the Republicans would hold on to their majority in the
Congress and would even enlarge it," Rogozin told Interfax on Wednesday.
He said that the outcome of the elections was largely influenced by the
terrorist attack of September 11, which changed the American nation's
psychology. "The Americans became aware that their country is in a state of
war, as a result of which the nation rallied around the current
administration," he said.
He pointed out that "in fact, the Democrats did not offer any effective
resistance to the Republicans. Moreover, they often supported the
administration, including on the use of force against Iraq." The Democrats
have not developed any new look into what is happening in their country and in
the world, and this has surely told on the outcome of the midterm
elections," said Rogozin.
