#4 Moscow, 24 October, ITAR-TASS correspondent Valeriy Agarkov: Russia has expressed its gratitude to the USA for the latter's clear-cut, decisive condemnation of the hostage-taking in Moscow, that the US leadership and George Bush personally immediately issued. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgiy Mamedov and US ambassador [to Russia] Alexander Vershbow discussed this during talks today. Smolenskaya Square [location of Russian Foreign Ministry] pointed out that this approach points to the new quality of the partnership in Russian-American relations, boosted at the summit in Moscow"." Such close cooperation inspires confidence that the international community will be able to provide a worthy response to the new wave of global terrorism, irrespective of where it is manifested," they noted at the Russian Foreign Ministry. During the conversation the American ambassador was informed about operations being undertaken by the Russian authorities, whose main concern is to save the lives of the innocent victims of this criminal act, they stressed at the Russian foreign policy department.
