Russia is committed to a multipolar model of international relations, based
on real equality of states and stronger key role of the United Nations. This
idea was expressed by Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, launching his new
book "Russia's foreign policy in epoch of globalisation" on Thursday.
He deems it necessary to lend the country's international activities "a
more realistic and pragmatic character, clearly determining regional and problem
priorities". "Defending its national foreign economic interests,
Russia strives for harmonious integration into the system of the world economy
at all levels," Ivanov noted.
"We are consistently building up foreign economic, trade and financial
relations. " Due attention is also given to "protection of the
national producers' interests," the minister emphasized.
The new, already second book by the Russian minister is based on Ivanov's
speeches and articles over the last two years. "This is a short period.
However, the past two years have become unique in modern history due to
concurrence of circumstances," the author noted.
"Kaleidoscopically developing processes of globalisation, new threats
and challenges radically changed traditional ideas on foreign policy and
international relations as a whole," he explained. "Every state now
faces the task of thorough perception and determination of its place in the
world arena, taking into account its national interests," the minister
stated.
Ivanov's book was put out by the OLMA-PRESS Publishing House.
