Putin beyond reach of his rivals in president election

MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - 51% of Russians would vote for Vladimir Putin if
the president election was held next Sunday.
Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov would gain 11% of the vote.
Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky and Kemerovo Governor
Aman Tuleyev would get 4% each.
3% of voters would prefer Minister for Civil Defense and Emergencies Sergei
Shoigu, while 2% would vote for Yabloko leader Grigory Yavlinsky.
Head of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yevgeny Primakov, Moscow
Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, leader of the Union of Right Forces Boris Nemtsov and Prime
Minister Mikhail Kasyanov could count on 1% of the votes, each.
This information comes from the Public Opinion Foundation, which polled 1,500
people in 100 towns and villages in 44 Russian regions on August 24-25.
49% of those polled said they would never vote for Zhirinovsky. 30% said the
same about Zyuganov, 24% about Nemtsov, 21% about Yavlinsky, 19% about Luzhkov,
14% about Primakov, 12% about Kasyanov, 8% about Tuleyev and Shoigu, and 6%
about Putin.
43% of respondents described the activities of President Putin as
"excellent," 40% as "satisfactory," and 11% as
"poor."
