PRESIDENT PUTIN: RUSSIAN ECONOMY IS REVIVING
POZNAN, JANUARY 17. /FROM RIA NOVOSTI'S SPECIAL CORRESPONDENTS NATALIA
GORBUNOVA, VICTOR NESTEROVICH/ -- On Thursday Russian President Vladimir Putin
said that the Russian economy is reviving and the domestic demand is rising. He
spoke up at the second economic forum Poland-Russia in Poznan in Poland.
Putin said that citizen accumulations at Russian banks have increased by 46
percent. The growth of the gross domestic product in 2001 constituted over 5
percent, industrial production 5.1 percent and real wages increased by 20
percent.
These indicators signify an increase in home demand, said Putin. The revival
of the Russian economy is a result of both external factors -- the high prices
of energy-carriers -- and internal factors -- the consumer demand is rapidly
growing, he noted.
The Russian authorities are going to continue with the policy of economic
encouragement, said the Russian president. Particularly, it is intended to
simplify the procedure of registration of enterprises and licensing of their
operation. In the opinion of Vladimir Putin, adoption of the Land Code and
reforming of natural monopolies will produce a positive effect.
