Book Launch: CDI's 2007 Military Almanac

Prepared by CDI's Straus Military Reform Project, the Military Almanac 2007 is a comprehensive, up-to-date, fact-filled guide to U.S. military, defense, and policy issues. Join us September 20, 2007, 6-8 pm, to celebrate the release of this work at the Carnegie Endowment Building. Winslow Wheeler, director of the Straus Military Reform Project, and Strauss Research Assistant Ana Marte will be on hand to discuss the book.
 
The American Film Institute Hosts CDI Advisor Philip Coyle

CDI Small Arms Expert to Speak at Meeting of UNA-NCA Peace and Security Task Force

The UNA-NCA Peace and Security Task Force will meet on Tuesday, May 22, 6:30-7:30 for its first session of its Promoting Global Security project, this month focusing on the topic of Small Arms Trafficking featuring subject matter expert Rachel Stohl from the Center for Defense Information. Stohl will discuss her recently published book: The Small Arms Trade: A Beginner’s Guide highlighting the global impact of small arms proliferation, the state of play in terms of combating it and what more can be done to address this threat to global security. She will have some copies of her book on hand and available for purchase.

Event: Rumsfeld Biography and 35 Years of Pentagon History

On June 14, 2007, the Center for Defense Information will host a book reception for "Rumsfeld: His Rise, Fall, and Catastrophic Legacy" with author Andrew Cockburn and Pentagon veteran Pierre M. Sprey. The forum will feature a discussion of longstanding Pentagon problems and the speakers will answer questions from the press and the public on current trends in U.S. defense policy.

Experts Release U.S. Security FY08 Budget Report Card

In anticipation of the release of the defense budget request on Feb. 5, 2007, four security and defense policy experts will brief the press on Feb. 1 and offer an insider’s look at the politics behind the dollars. The experts will release a report card grading the Bush administration on their handling of key national security and budget issues,with CDI's Winslow Wheeler discussing needed reforms in the defense budgeting process.

Vandergriff addresses fundamental reasons why America’s military leadership has failed to adapt quickly and effectively to unfolding events in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he describes what actions are needed to produce an officer corps that can cope effectively with the form of warfare we face today (“4th generation warfare”).
