Federal Funding for Scientific Research:

Military Remains Top Priority

President Clinton's 1997 federal budget request for scientific research and development (R&D) devotes $38 Billion -- more than half of all federal research dollars -- to the military. The continued dominance of federal R&D money by the military, and congressional Republican proposals to cut funds for civilian R&D by a third or more by 2002 (in inflation-adjusted dollars), threaten America's future economic growth, global competitiveness, and standard of living.
