Information Warfare and Nuclear Weapons Security (Analysis)
The extent to which information warfare threatens nuclear weapons command and control systems is unclear, but the threat to similar government and commercial systems has been extensively studied. In this article, CDI Science Fellow Eric Hundman analyzes the potential threat to nuclear command and control by combining public data on information warfare threats with a classification system for information warfare techniques developed by the Defense Department.

Small Arms Agenda at U.N. Biennial Meeting of States (BMS) (Analysis)

Pentagon's Prompt Global Strike Program: A Trigger for Nuclear Conflict? (Analysis)
The Pentagon’s Prompt Global Strike (PGS) program aims to enable the United States to plan and deliver military strikes anywhere on the globe in less than one hour. However, weapon systems developed in pursuit of a PGS capability could raise the probability of an inadvertent nuclear exchange and complicate future arms control negotiations. Therefore, as CDI Research Assistant Vince Manzo explains in this analysis, it is imperative that Congress exercise strict oversight over all aspects of any PGS program.
