CDI WEST (Los Angeles, Calif.) STAFF
This office is expanding CDI's profile and adding value to work on a wide range of issues, including Asia/Pacific affairs and the role of high technology in future warfare. Formerly the assistant secretary of defense and director of Operational Test and Evaluation, (1994-2001), Mr. Coyle now serves as senior advisor to CDI President Dr. Bruce Blair on a variety of projects, initially focusing on defense acquisition and testing issues. Prior to his stint at the Pentagon, Mr. Coyle was associate director of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif. - where he served in several capacities from 1959 to 1979, and again from 1981 to 1993. With more than 40 years experience in testing and test-related matters, he was selected by Aviation Week magazine as one of its "Laurels" honorees for 2000, a select group of people recognized for outstanding contributions in the aerospace field. Mr. Coyle also is leading CDI's California branch office, CDI West, which will include analysis of the role of high technology and other issues of regional interest in its work.

Dr. Glass joins the CDI West staff from his former position as Senior Defense Policy Advisor for Sen. Jeff Bingaman, Democrat from New Mexico. Dr. Glass now serves as senior advisor to CDI President Dr. Bruce Blair on a variety of projects, ranging from U.S. defense programs to Russian nuclear weapons security.
As Sen. Bingaman's principal staff advisor for his position on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Dr. Glass’ broad portfolio included all major defense policy issues relating to personnel matters, research and development, procurement, arms control, and foreign policy. Dr. Glass also worked on the Energy Department’s Stockpile Stewardship and Nonproliferation programs, in particular those involving cooperative work with Russia's nuclear weapons research complex. Prior to his work in the Senate, Dr. Glass held positions at the State and Defense Departments along with the National Security Division of the Congressional Budget Office. While working at the Senate, Dr. Glass also taught defense policy courses at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. from 1997-2000. He continues to teach as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California.
