Washington Profile: Yali Chen, Research Associate
                                                                                                

            Before joining CDI, Chen Yali studied at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in Princeton University and received her master degree in international relations in June 2002.

Chen worked for China Daily, China's only national English-language daily newspaper, as a reporter and opinion writer on Chinese politics and international affairs for six years. She received the 1994-1995 and 1997-1998 International News Award from State Council for her writings about China's security relations with Japan and the United States. In mid-2001, Chen worked as a research fellow with the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb, Croatia where her research centered on nationalism in Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia.

Chen received her BA in international relations from the People's University of China (now Renmin University) in 1994.
